This document outlines the results of a questionnaire-based evaluation of South Yorkshire’s Road Safety Partnerships Parental Ride-along pilot. The pilot aimed to increase the awareness of carers/parents of the dangers faced by newly qualified drivers in the first six months of driving.
Carers/parents accompanied a member of their family on a bespoke driving lesson with the learners’ driving instructor. All instructors were part of the Learn Safe Drive Safe scheme.
The evaluation confirmed that the parents/carers found the exercise useful and saw the ride-along experience in a very positive light.
The scheme is now being further developed and will be more widely promoted across South Yorkshire in 2013.
