RideSafe BackSafe is an established, dedicated and sophisticated road safety initiative, focused on reaching moped, scooter and motorcycle riders, as well as simultaneously educating other road users.

RideSafe BackSafe’s core aims are to:-
1. Promote defensive road riding for effective risk assessment and to encourage all bikers to improve their skills through post-test, voluntary training.
2. Emphasise the benefits of and reasons why protective clothing and body armour should be worn.
3. Simultaneously educate all other road users as to the inherent vulnerability of motorcyclists.
4. Drive motorcyclists to the website – www.ridesafebacksafe.co.uk – as a biker-friendly information/advice resource centre.

The initiative is intelligent, persistent and friendly and delivers key road safety messages through targetted channels and strategically agreed activities. Since 2006, it has built an excellent reputation within the motorcycling industry and specialist press & media. RideSafe BackSafe has also developed strong brand recognition and is perceived as being operated “by bikers, for bikers”.

RideSafe BackSafe is now acknowledged by the motorcycling industry, many road safety professionals and other organisations as being an authoritative and respected voice, dedicated to supporting bikers and saving lives.

Project Lead for the initiative is Karen Delaney at Transport for Greater Manchester.

The best thing that any motorcyclist can do – as a vulnerable road user – is to self improve for self-preservation. Competence, confidence and the right riding temperament will make for a safer ride.
