The number of accidents involving Large and Heavy Goods Vehicles is far greater than the Highways Agency would like. To tackle this, the Highways Agency produced a Driver Information Programme titled "Heavy Good Vehicle".

Free
The mascot for the programme, “Stick”, who is based on cult 60s/70s TV hit ‘The Saint’, encourages truckers to drive heavy ‘good’ vehicles. From a series of animated emails to truck backs, from messages in motorway service areas to posters at ports and from messages on ferries through to a highly targeted diesel fuel nozzle campaign covering the whole network.

All these help create an identifiable image with a simple message that is relevant to truckers and requires them to log on to the Highway Agency’s Heavy Good Vehicle micro-site.

This website holds a wealth of material useful for driver and operator including access to the Truckstop Guide, information for abnormal loads, journey planning tools, as well as safety tips and reminders.

It is a one-stop-shop for truckers and offers links to partners’ sites and to other information useful for the truck driver and operator.

The site is available in four languages; English, French, German and Polish so as to help foreign visitors.
