To raise awareness of the safety risks involved when towing a caravan or trailer and the importance of ensuring you are towing safely, the Highways Agency has issued a new safety DVD, Fit to Tow, presented by Carol Smillie.
The DVD is aimed at people taking to the roads with a caravan, trailer or horsebox. It advises them to carry out a final safety and maintenance check before setting out, especially if it has been standing for most of the year.
It also advises people to ensure that their trailer is properly serviced by a reputable dealer and fit to be on the road.
A text-only transcript of the video is also available.
‘Hitched’
After the success of ‘Fit to Tow’ the Highways Agency created a magazine to deliver the information given in the DVD in a more accessible format.
‘Hitched’ also goes into greater detail in various aspects surrounding towing. It is broken down into four sections; utility trailers, caravans, livestock trailers and heavy plant.
This allows the reader to dip in to get the most relevant information for what they are towing. It combines these sections with general information which is relevant to all those who tow.
