This statistical bulletin looks at pedal cyclist casualties in Wales, particularly concerning child (aged 0-15).

The purpose of this bulletin is to show trends in the number and severity of these casualties; and to show the circumstances associated with the accidents that resulted in the casualties. The aim is to provide information that is relevant to determining road safety policy in relation to pedal cyclist casualties; and to provide a starting point for any further, in-depth investigation of accidents resulting in pedal cyclist casualties.

This bulletin is an update of SB25/2010 Pedal Cyclist Casualties, 2008 and looks at the following circumstances associated with pedal cyclist casualties:

• Age and sex of the pedal cyclist casualty;
• The local authority area concerned;
• Whether the accident causing the pedal cyclist casualty occurred at a junction;
• The manoeuvre by the cyclist when the accident took place;
• Type of road, and speed limit, where the accident took place;
• Quarter in the year, day of week and time of day of the accident.
