This statistical bulletin looks at pedestrian road traffic casualties in Wales. It looks both at all pedestrian casualties and at child (aged 0-15) pedestrian casualties. The purpose of this bulletin is to show trends in the number and severity of these casualties; and to show the circumstances associated with the accidents that resulted in these casualties.

The aim of doing this is to provide information that is relevant to determining road safety policy in relation to pedestrian casualties; and also to provide a starting point for any further, in-depth investigation of the accidents resulting in pedestrian casualties.

This bulletin looks at the following circumstances associated with pedestrian casualties:

• Age and sex of the pedestrian casualty;
• Type of road, and speed limit, where the accident took place;
• The location of the pedestrian when hit, on or beside the carriageway;
• The type of vehicle involved;
• Whether it was a hit and run accident;
• Day of week, weather condition and light conditions of the accident.
