This report provides estimates to March 2010 of casualties in Wales resulting from personal injury road accidents. These estimates monitor emerging trends between the publication of annual figures, which will be available in June 2011.

Attention is drawn to figures for the latest four quarters taken together. This is because of the quarterly pattern in, and irregular fluctuation of, figures for individual quarters. The figures cover only road accidents reported to the police and involving personal injury.

Provisional estimates show that during the March quarter 2010, in Wales:
• 26 road casualties were reported as killed
• 176 were reported as seriously injured
• 1,933 as slightly injured

Comparing the most recent 12 month period (April 2009 to March 2010) with the previous 12 month period (April 2008 to March 2009), shows:
• All road casualties were down by 7%, and within this total;
• The numbers killed were 29% lower
• Seriously injured were 13% lower
• Slightly injured were 6% lower
