Reported Road Casualties in Great Britain: Quarterly Provisional Estimates is a series providing estimates of personal injury road accidents and their casualties. These estimates are published to allow emerging trends to be monitored between the publications of annual figures.

Provisional estimates for Q3 2010 show:

• Reported road casualties were down 3%, and killed or seriously injured casualties were down by 8%, compared with the 12-month period ending September 2009. The number of fatalities fell by 21%, to 1,900 over the same period.

• Pedestrian, motorcycle and car user casualties reported to the police showed overall reductions of 3%, 8% and 4% respectively compared with the year ending September 2009.

• The number of pedestrian and motorcycle users reported killed or seriously injured both fell by 8% whilst car user KSI casualties fell by 11%. However, the total number of reported pedal cycle casualties rose by 3%, and the number killed or seriously injured rose by 2%.

• The overall number of reported child casualties fell by 5%, with those killed or seriously injured also falling by 5% compared with the year ending September 2009.

• The number of injury road accidents reported to the police fell by 3% and the number of fatal accidents by 19% compared with the 12-month period ending September 2009.

• Road traffic was just 1.6% lower compared with the 12-month period ending September 2009.
