Get in Gear is a driver training course specifically structured for young and inexperienced drivers who live in the Bucks County Council area. It is a local authority driver education scheme, delivered by specially trained driving instructors, directly targeting those areas in which young drivers tend to get into so much difficulty.

Get in Gear is already making a positive difference to road safety among this vulnerable group of road users. Advanced driving tuition for young drivers in Bucks is a lot of fun too, and certainly nothing like a standard driving lesson. Also, driver training is not delivered by standard driving instructors.

The Get in Gear young driver training programme provides an innovative post–test driver education and safety programme, specically aimed at 17–24–year olds.

Aimed specifically at improving young driver safety, the scheme provides a great driver training opportunity for those who have recently qualified to a full licence to drive cars. The training vastly extends knowledge and progresses practical road skills to a level that is above and beyond that required for the standard driving test.

The course was evaluated in July 2013 and overall the findings of the evaluation were positive and consistent with the hoped for learning outcomes of the course. A copy of the evaluation is available below for download.
