This is a summary of research funded by the Road Safety Trust and conducted by researchers at the University of the West of England which examined the evidence for positive safety effects of removal or non re-instatement of centre lines on certain type of lower speed limit (20-30mph) roads. The research had a particular focus on cycle user safety. The Briefing Note summaries the aspects of the research and findings with a view to providing assistance to practitioners.
