CrashMap is the most detailed publicly available map of road traffic collisions. With UK government collision data stretching back to 2005, the results can be filtered to locate particular casualty types with detailed reports available for download.

CrashMap has been developed by a very experienced team of collision analysts and road safety professionals with extensive experience of making road casualty data available to the press and public, especially online.

Once the DfT permitted public access to the road casualty data it was an essential next step to provide a useful and usable tool to facilitate this. The CrashMap vision was to create a way in which the public, who often have a very genuine interest in what happens on roads in their area, could easily lay hold of the most relevant information to them with a few clicks of a mouse.

Using a fully searchable map based on the Google Maps API, with the ability to filter on year, severity and road user involvement, users can locate crashes in a particular area, see what date they occurred on and how serious an incident it was; a detailed collision report can then be downloaded.

The maps are provided free-of-charge but a small fee (£1 or less) is charged for access to the detailed report. Costs reduce according the number of credits bought and there has been significant interest from the private sector who would normally have to go to individual highway authorities to access the information.
