Launched in April 2006, the RideSafe BackSafe initiative is run by bikers for bikers. Our main aims are to:
1.Increase other road users’ awareness of the vulnerability of bikers on the road and emphasise the need to THINK BIKE, THINK BIKER and LEAVE ROOM.
2.Promote defensive road riding for effective risk assessment.
3.Encourage bikers to improve their skills through voluntary, post-test training.
4.Explain the benefits of and reason why, protective clothing and body armour should be worn.
5.Promote the dedicated website and Forum.
The RideSafe BackSafe team includes DriveSafe/Greater Manchester Joint Road Safety Team (Project Lead), Merseyside Road Safety Partnership, Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety, Cumbria Road Safety Partnership, a Steering Group of motorcycling enthusiasts and BikeSafe.
The M partnership – a specialist Creative Consultancy that already works heavily within the motorcycling industry – is also a part of the team.
Motorcycle Dealerships & retailers, (Dealer Engagement Strategy) manufacturers, motorcycling celebrity ambassadors and other motorcycle industry experts also support the initiative.
We are working together for the community and are focused on reducing casualties on our roads.
