South Ayrshire Council

Working in partnership we will ‘strive to make South Ayrshire a safer place by preventing accidents at home and on the road through road safety measures and raising of road safety awareness’. South Ayrshire Council’s Vision for the Future: Healthy, Safe and Caring.

The Council has a statutory obligation to promote road safety initiatives and is keen to make its Vision a reality. These initiatives are linked to South Ayrshire Council’s Local Transport Strategy 2009-14, expanding on the road safety education, training and publicity element.

Road crashes are a major cause of death and injury and the Council’s road safety staff within Roads and Transportation has been diligently working towards achieving the UK government’s casualty reduction targets set in 2000.

Scotland’s Road Safety Framework to 2020 will be announced within the next few months providing the Council with a focus for the next 10 years.
