Shetland Islands Council continues to work along with the Police and other agencies to reduce the number of people killed or injured on roads in Shetland. Injuries, particularly serious injuries, have been falling over the years. Unfortunately deaths as a result of road crashes has remained largely unchanged over the last 20 years, averaging 2 or 3 people killed every year.
Due to its unique location, getting around and to and from Shetland is important to our citizens and members of the community. We provide a range of services to maintain and manage the public road network including snow clearing, road improvements and provision of street lights.
