The safety of Sefton’s residents and visitors is of paramount importance and we have a team of dedicated officers whose main task is to reduce and prevent road traffic collisions on our roads.
On average, road traffic collisions within Sefton results in approximately 1,400 casualties each year. In order to reduce these road traffic collisions, we support the Government’s campaigns with a number of programmes and facilities aimed at educating and training road users.
The Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council website provides advice and information on the following road safety topics:
• In-car safety – details about seat belt usage and child car seats.
• Cycling and walking to school – encouraging walking and cycling to school and reducing the ‘school run’.
• Driver training – learning to drive, the driving test and minibus driver training.
• Education – road safety education in schools.
• School crossing patrols – assisting school children to cross roads
• Walking – benefits of walking
• Drink drive – questions and answers about drinking and driving
• Slow down – speeding drivers
• Mobile phones – new legislation on the use of mobile phones
• Motorcycling – information on safer motorcycling
• Teenagers – road safety advice for this age group
• Horse Sense – help and advice for horse riders
In addition to education, training and publicity, we also carry out analysis of collision data and implement physical works to make the roads safer.
