Scottish Borders Council

Road safety affects almost everyone, whether it is a subconscious decision to cross a road at a particular point, choosing an appropriate speed to drive or deciding the age a child can go to school unaccompanied. The choices we make are influenced directly by real or perceived safety on the roads.

In 2010 there were 9 people killed and 390 injured in road accidents on local roads. The rural nature of the roads in the Scottish Borders presents particular road accident problems.

The Scottish Borders Road Safety Working Group is made up of representatives of the council, police, fire, camera partnership and other groups, to address road safety issues.
