North Somerset Council

Our goal is to reduce the number of traffic casualties and make the roads safer.

We aim to achieve this by promoting road safety through training and publicity initiatives aimed at young drivers and bike riders.

We do this via education exercises in schools and colleges and by co-ordinating cycle training and tests for school children. Schools can register to run the proficiency course and test by filling in our cycling proficiency registration form.

We also work on campaigns with the Department for Transport such as International Walk to School Week and are a member of the Avon and Somerset Safety Camera Partnership.

The Department for Transport has brought out THINK! Education, a suite of road safety resources for teachers, pupils and parents which can be loaned to parents in the region.

North Somerset Council provides advice and information on the following road safety issues:

• School travel plans
• Demonstrations and parades
• Personal injury
• Cycling
• Dangerous junctions
• Kerbcraft
• Pedestrian crossings
• Safety Camera Partnership
• Speeding
• Speed checks
• Traffic calming
• Cycling road safety
