
Midlothian Council’s statutory duties and responsibilities in the promotion of road safety are contained within the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and the Road Traffic Act 1988. Midlothian Council shares responsibility for road safety with the Chief Constable of Lothian and Borders Police.
Midlothian is committed to reducing the number of accidents on the road network and has included policies and initiatives to achieve this goal. Road safety includes many initiatives such as safety schemes for school children, introducing road safety measures and 20mph zones as traffic calming measures to reduce speed.
