In partnership with the Metropolitan Police, London Borough of Sutton is continually campaigning to reduce anti-social behaviour and traffic offences. Our Road Safety Unit offers training and regularly runs publicity campaigns to help make Sutton a safer borough. Our Road Safety Department is always happy to give advice to any age group.
For children, the theme normally follows traffic awareness/pedestrian skills, and usually falls into one of the following age ranges:
• Pre-School
• Key Stage I
• Key Stage 2
• Key Stage 3
Pre-driver advice is also available to sixth formers.
Post-natal groups have called upon our Road Safety Team for information on in-car safety for babies and children and many groups for general pedestrian advice.
Cycling
The Road Safety Unit has been offering cycle training for a number of years now. We train to the new National Standards for Cycle Training and cover all aspects of cycling. Our work is mainly concerned with training year 5 and year 6 pupils to National Standards Levels one and two (previously known as the Cycling Proficiency Test).
We also provide Level three training for adults. This service is aimed at those who have not cycled for a long period of time and require a ‘top up’ session. It is also beneficial for adults who are not very confident when cycling, for example due to traffic conditions.
We are able to tailor the training to individual requirements so please call to discuss your needs.
The London Borough of Sutton road safety website provides further information on current campaigns and road safety issues within the area.
