The Wales Community Fire Safety Trust (known as Atal Tân Cymru / Firebrake Wales) is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee established in 2002. Independent of, but working closely with, the three Welsh Fire & Rescue Services, its objects are:
• To advance the education of the public in relation to all aspects of fire safety and fire prevention;
• To reduce or assist in the reduction in the number of fire related deaths and injuries; and
• To provide equipment, facilities, advice and services which will promote safety and reduce accidents or dangers in and to Welsh communities.
Following the tenets of evidence-based practice, the organisation aims to advance better targeting, engagement, and delivery.
Work includes:
• Supporting improved data collection and analysis; profiling attitudes; further identification of risk factors; disseminating evidence of good practice.
• ‘Interpreting’ the message; promoting shared responsibility; supporting collaborative working; building on the common ground.
• Engaging with others to support, lobby for, and promote both legislative and service improvements in community safety.
