Hammersmith and Fulham Council

Cycling and walking to school
We encourage children to learn about road safety from an early age. Transport for London’s Children’s Traffic Club helps parents introduce their pre-school children to road safety with a series of six books (one is posted to members every six months).

Our Road Safety Officers visit infant, junior and secondary schools throughout the borough to raise awareness of road safety and provide training. We also recruit pupils to be Junior Road Safety Officers. They are sent information packs by Transport for London that feature fun ways for them and their friends to learn about road safety.

Pedestrian crossings
The different types of pedestrian crossings found in the borough are listed below:

•Pelican crossing (Pedestrian Light Controlled Crossing)
•Toucan crossing (Two-Can Cross)
•Buildout
•Pedestrian refuge
•Raised entry treatment
•Dropped kerb

Traffic schemes
We use various measures to slow down traffic on roads in the borough including: speed cushions, carriageway narrowing, raised entry treatments, alternate give ways, mini roundabouts and chicanes.

The Hammersmith and Fulham County Council website provides further information and advice on the road safety topics.
