Falkirk Council

Falkirk Council (or Falkirk Unitary Authority) was constituted in 1996, when the Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling Councils replaced the previous, barely sufficiently large roads authority, Central Regional Council (2008 mid-year estimated population about 290,500).
Within its Unitary Authority area, Falkirk Council supports a population of (2008 mid-year estimated) 151,600 and maintains the 933 km of roads on its statutory list. A further 47 km of roads in the area are maintained by Scottish Government contractors.
In the Baseline period (currently 1994-1998) road accidents in the area averaged 363. These produced an average of 482 casualties (432 on local roads) of whom 105 were Killed or Seriously Injured (93 on local roads).
