Derbyshire Constabulary is committed to reducing and investigating crime, protecting people and promoting law and order across the county of Derbyshire.
Derbyshire is renowned for being hugely diverse, encompassing the rural areas of the Peak District as well as old mining communities, modern towns and business centres. It is also home to the vibrant and culturally diverse city of Derby.
We believe the public has a right to be able to use the roads of Derbyshire safely with confidence free from death, injury, damage and fear. Our approach to policing the roads of Derbyshire is directed, rather than arbitrary. This means that we don’t target motorists at random. Instead, we direct our resources to areas where we need to make a difference.
We will continue to target the factors behind most serious road traffic collisions nationally. These are known as the “Fatal Four”: driving at excessive speed, under the influence of drink or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile telephone whilst driving.
The number of road deaths in Derbyshire has reduced by 50% over the last 16 years. However the number of child casualties continues to rise, and this is something we are determined to tackle. We’ve included lots of advice our our website about protecting children.
We will effectively use our highly trained staff and the technology available to us in order to tackle criminality and deny criminals the use of the roads. Where appropriate we will divert people who commit minor traffic offences away from prosecution into education.
Derbyshire Constabulary’s website provides advice and information on the following road safety topics:
• Motorcyclists
• Fatigue
• Pedestrians
• Head Restraints
• Vehicle Maintenance
• Winter Driving
• Considerate Parking
• Vehicle Safety
