We have a statutory obligation to introduce initiatives designed to promote road safety and reduce road deaths and casualties. To meet this obligation, we have introduced a number of engineering schemes and projects supported by education and publicity measures.
The Road Safety Plan sets out the measures which we, in partnership with Strathclyde Police and other agencies, are taking to reduce the number of road accidents in the area. You can view the latest Road Safety Plan using the link below.
Since the introduction of casualty reduction targets by the UK Government, we have seen a consistent reduction in the number of people killed and injured on our roads. Not only have we achieved the targets, we have bettered them. You can view our statistics using the link below.
Whilst we welcome the continuing reduction in deaths and injuries on our roads, reducing the number even further remains an area of high priority for us and our partners.
The variety of measures used to reduce road crashes is collectively referred to as the four Es:
• Education
• Engineering
• Enforcement
• Encouragement
