Buckinghamshire County Council

The government has published a new Strategic Framework for Road Safety and has asked local authorities to assess and set their own road safety priorities.

We assess our priorities by analysing collision data collected by Thames Valley Police at the scene of a collision and investigating road safety concerns identified by the local community.

We aim to reduce the number of casualties occurring on the road through a targeted approach including:

• Engineering works
• Education, training and publicity
• Speed limit reductions
• Community Speedwatch initiatives

Here are some of the activities we run:

• School curriculum Key Stage 1 road safety Copy Cat Campaign
• Continuing professional development courses for Approved Driving Instructors
• Driving for Work initiatives for local businesses which include seminars for senior managers and discounted business driver assessments
• Road safety awareness campaigns at various events around the county
• Winter driving workshops for members of the public and employees
• Education alongside roadside police enforcement
• Seatbelt, drink driving and mobile phone campaigns
• Make the Commitment – speed awareness campaign
• Targeted casualty data led campaigns

• Young Driver campaign (17-24)
