    Good morning, does anyone have any experience of delivering a road safety campaign aimed at the parents of young drivers? We have tried numerous things in the past but haven’t got the participation levels we would have liked. We are looking at creating a social media campaign but are also open to an audience attended event. Is there anything in particular that parents engage well with? Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Hi Ross

    I have been recently made aware of the following campaign, run by North Wales Police;

    Olivia’s Legacy

    Maybe this could help you?

    Hi Ross, it might be worth you having a chat to the team at Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service who have delivered multiple parent/guardian information sessions on this subject. If you don’t have their contact details, please do send me an email at elizabeth.box@racfoundation.org and I can make some relevant introductions. As you have alighted on, parental/guardian involvement to support young driver safety is crucial, but it is also challenging to secure adequate engagement levels. You might be interested to take a look at this Open Access academic review of parental interventions, which highlight components that are most likely to achieve success https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4483193/. You may also like to make use of the DriveFit film https://roadsafetygb.org.uk/drivefit/ to highlight some of the key areas where it is important to secure parental support (i.e., learning to drive – hours of practice and hazard prediction training, vehicle and insurance choices, post-test protections in the early months of solo licensure – limiting the number of peer passengers and avoiding late night driving). All the best for developing your provision.

    Hi Ross. I don’t know whether my response here will prove of any value for what you are seeking, but I will leave you to judge that.

    See here http://www.satd.co.uk where on the home page you will be able to view a PREVIEW film (15 mins) of my longer Film (80 mins) Staying Alive To Drive. The film addresses 50 everyday driving scenarios that bring RISK and these are supported by 350+ real incident clips where things did not go to plan.

    The FILM costs under £6 when purchased personally 1-off online streaming/download etc. Business versions in quantity are priced based on volume and for large enterprise level the unit price can drop to £0.50 or even less.

    However, if you go to the GRATIS page on the menu http://www.satd.co.uk/gratis you will see a series of FREE digital Edocs/FlipBooks that provide immense value in their own right and being free provide insights and stats that will assist ANY driver not just young drivers. And a good route to help young drivers as they emerge after passing their test, is via their parents who may also benefit from accessing my content (whether the free elements or the paid elements).

    The Business edition of the film can also be CUSTOMISED to reflect the branding and strapline messages of the BUSINESS concerned.

    I am launching the product as we speak, and I am approaching Dealerships, Gyms, Unions, Universities, Banks, Building Societies, Retail Chains, Hospitality, Fast Food outlets, NHS, Civil Service and lots more including ordinary businesses S M L XL and XXL.

    Feel completely free to share the FREE content on the GRATIS page. For a very small fee THAT gratis page can also be CUSTOMISED to a landing page pertinent to the business.

    I like to think that the FILM content (paid) provides 60% of my gold nuggets, whereas the FREE content provides the other 40% – but it’s FREE 🙂

    I will leave you to judge whether it has any relevance to your mission. My contact details can be found on the website or you can respond here if you prefer.
