Vehicle Component Testing & Certification

To place vehicle components on the market anywhere in the world they are normally tested and approved by an appropriate authority. Most countries insist on proof of compliance with national or international standards, regulations or directives coverage safety and or environmental performance.

BSI is accredited as a technical service by the VCA (Vehicle Certification Agency) to assist with the mandatory certification of vehicle components for use in the European Union. Depending on the intended market, BSI offers both ECE Regulation approval and EEC Directive approval. Usually this only involves a nominal certification fee to gain both marks at the same time.

With more than 50 years’ experience BSI is well respected as technical experts in this field and offers pre-approval product testing where its technicians evaluate products and, where possible, assist with compliance prior to full certification.

BSI deals direct with the manufacturers throughout the process, with the VCA issuing an internationally accepted certificate. This service can be extended to include type approval for other markets such as the USA, through the Automotive Manufacturers Equipment Compliance Agency (AMECA) and the Taiwan market through VSCC- Taiwan

Currently BSI offers VCA approval for the following products:

• Rear viewing devices (mirrors and cameras)

• Retro-reflective devices (including heavy goods vehicle safety markings)
