Fines for tyres with insufficient tread

What is the fine for having tyres with insufficient tread if found guilty at court? I told that it is a level 5 offence which use to be up to £5,000 but is now unlimited. But a lot of websites quote £2,500 which I think is incorrect. Can anyone send me the correct information?

AFAIK it remains the same at 2500 per tyre plus the points. But have yet to see anyone get anything near to that, typically its dealt with by way of endorsable FPN or words of advice.
Quoting the maximum fine / penalty rarely has any value or reference to real world

I agree with the previous response but would add that it also includes the spare making a total of 12,500 plus 3 points per tyre. As stated above I've not known anyone receive the full penalty.

It is worth noting that should you call out a breakdown driver and ask to have an illegal spare tyre fitted from your boot they will refuse as they can also be prosecuted, or so I'm led to believe.
Regards.

We're all right!

It's a level 4 court fine / 2,500 per tyre BUT goes to level 5 fine if offence is committed in a goods vehicle or a vehicle adapted to carry more than 8 passengers [HGV/PSV])

This is the fine at court.
Thanks for your help
