Costs of ADI training delivery and administration

We are currently developing a range of road safety education interventions that rely in part on ADIs delivering the content e.g. post-test training courses. We would like to know what rates colleagues elsewhere in the country typically pay for the following scenarios:

• Where ADIs are delivering training to qualified drivers using their own vehicle?

• Where ADIs are delivering training to qualified drivers using the client's vehicle?

• Costs of administration of training – where this is outsourced?

Ideally we are looking to get an idea of a competitive rate per hour in each case. If anyone is running interventions where these costs are known we would really appreciate your insights. Many thanks

Andrew Priest

I guess this would depend on the local ADi rates for your area. Happy to discuss how we do it here in Cheshire West if you would like to give me a call.

Andrew
In Somerset we pay an ADI £20 when they take an older driver out in their own vehicle, at present we do not use them for anything else

We shouldn’t forget the excellent post test training that organisations such as RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders and of course Roadsmart provide. I know that the local RoSPA Thames Valley Group provide a complete course which includes a one day induction course introducing them to Roadcraft followed by up to 10 on the road sessions with a qualified Tutor for £46. Great value. Furthermore if they stay a member of RoSPA the candidate can take a free retest.
Have a look at Roadartvg.org.uk

In Hampshire, for casually employed ADIs where the client uses their own car we pay £24 per hour.

For our Pass Plus subsidy scheme for younger drivers we allow the ADI to charge their standard rate but the client has a choice of who to use from those ADIs registered with us.

As an ADI who does post test Driver training on a regular basis. I would be looking for a minimum of £30 per hour in the clients car and £35 per hour in my own private car. The learner driver market is currently boyant and in my opinion you will fail to get any quality if you pitch the price to low.

£25 /30 ph in clients own vehicle is a fair price as a good ADI should not have work for less than their standard pupil rate

We pay ADI's £25ph for delivering training to colleagues using the drivers own vehicles or council pool vehicles, and £30ph if using the ADI's vehicle. We are aware this is below the market rate for ADI's.
Admin costs are covered by the team budget so exact figures are not known.
