Road Safety Initiative

I am the manager of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Phoenix Programme that runs courses for youths aged between 12 17 years. The courses include many aspects to try and engage with young people particularly in the Sunderland area who have come from troubled families and who are currently or at risk of offending.

At present the courses do not include any road safety sessions, something I feel is vitally important particularly at this stage in their lives.

I was wondering if anyone could maybe contribute to the Phoenix Programme by delivering maybe an hour or 2 session on Road Safety. Or had a representative in the North East area? At present we run 18 of these courses throughout the year.

In addition to this I am looking for funding to help with this type of training to allow more courses to run throughout the year. I would be very grateful if you could give me any information or guidance on this matter also?

The Phoenix Programme has been running now since 2000 and is very well established and gained several awards in its life time.

Hi - we've worked with a group similar to yours run by our local football club - Brighton & Hove Albion. They do youth work - funded by various bids to various pots plus overheads covered by the club. They've worked with several agencies to produce various booklets backing up coaching sessions with youth workers at various events - Discrimination/Sexual Health/Homophobia/ - and road safety with us. If you want the .pdf of it welcome - or can put you in contact if other stuff interesting as well.
