Looking for the donation of reflective armbands

I am the assistant development officer at St Augustine University Tanzania. St. Augustine University is located on the south-eastern shores of Lake Victoria, approximately 10km south of the city of Mwanza. Extending over 600 acres of land in the Nyegezi-Malimbe area, the University's main campus currently asserts a student population of 13,400 for the 2013/14 academic year.

Road safety on the roads surrounding the campus is a major problem during the night hours as there is no street lighting or catsí eyes on the roads which would increase the visibility of pedestrians. Further to this, the condition of the roads in the area are incredibly poor and unmaintained resulting in potholes which further impede driving conditions at night time, leaving pedestrians increasingly vulnerable. There have been countless accidents involving pedestrians and drivers from Saint Augustine University and members of the community from the surrounding area which have resulted in both serious injuries and fatalities.

As part of a public health initiative which we hope to launch on campus to make students aware of the importance of being visible to drivers at night time, we are kindly requesting your assistance and support. Through the donation of reflective armbands which could be distributed to students, we feel we could make a massive difference to the safety of both pedestrians and drivers in the area surrounding the campus. These armbands would be distributed during a road safety campaign day held on campus which would seek to inform people of the importance of being safe and being seen at night time.

Donation of Reflective Armbands

Hello Rosie

We have put out a call for people to investigate their store cupboards for out of date resources such as hedgehog reflectives. We have had one positive response so far, and will let you know as soon as we have anything further.

Ann
