Drink/Drug Testing in the Workplace
Are there any LAs that currently undertake random drink and drug testing in the workplace? We are developing a policy and would like advice/assistance from those who have implemented such a scheme to identify pitfalls etc. Thanks in advance.

Drink/drug testing in the workplace
Although I'm not aware of a LA that does this, I believe that some Fire and Rescue services have done or have considered this, so it may be worth getting in touch with them. Also some HM forces establishments do it, but of course they may not be restricted in what they can do with soldiers as you would be with staff.

Drink Drug Testing
I notice that you are developing a policy that may include random Drink Drugs testing in the workplace? Whilst this may not be the offer of help that you are seeking, I am also looking to develop a DD policy for the LA and would welcome any advice/ suggestions that you may be willing to share!
The HSE has a number of case studies for developing general policies, some of which include DD testing in the work place, but you will have to trawl through them....
Further case studies are available at... http://www.drivingforbetterbusiness.com/casestudies/default.aspx
and specific Drink Drugs policy advice can be found at... http://www.drivingforbetterbusiness.com/search.aspx?cx=002503473335972040492%3Aamg1-jougkw&cof=FORID%3A11&ie=UTF-8&q=drink+drug+policy&sa=Search
I hope that you can follow the links, let me know if you have any problems. The issue for me isn't so much as what to include, it is the actual experiences, positive and barriers that need to be overcome which interest me, especially getting Unions on board and the processes involved with getting agreement for the testing.
Hope to speak soon!
