Anti-social driving tied in to school crossing partrol recruitment

Like many authorities in the south east we're having great difficulty in recruiting SCPs and are concerned that if we don't fill the posts the risk is greater and also that the posts are likely to be deleted as an easy cut in these times.

Looking at doing a campaign to highlight anti-social driving around school times and encouraging people to stand up and be counted as SCPs. Not sure if this would be an effective way to tackle both problems. Has anyone tried this kind of thing - comments/advice/material to use? We have Bucks banners which are looking at trying but want to see if associated campaign can help. Looked at worn cameras and seeing what West Sussex experience is as we think could be counter productive for individual SCPs.

Hi Keith
If you are struggling to employ loltpop ladies why not install high visibility belisha beacons on the zebra crossings which will improve the safety of the crossing as well as reducing the operating costs. See:https://ticknallsolar.com/high-visibility-beacon/

Hi there, iím The supplier of the Parking Buddie School Road Safety Signs
They are working extremely well for lots of Schools, Police and Councils, helping to tackle speeding and dangerous illegal and inconsiderate parking outside schools.

Anti-social driving tied in to school crossing partrol recruitment

Here in Hackney we run annual poster campaigns promoting the "Stop means Stop" message. I am currently looking at how we might be able to run a more social media based campaign this autumn as it is felt that that posters on the busy streets of Hackney can be missed. My understanding is we can pay for targeted ads on Twitter etc so I am going to be looking into this with our Comms team.
We also run road side events in areas identified as having particular issues. At these we use banners to share the message with road users, but also have a stall where we can interact with pedestrians who may also be drivers, cyclists etc at other times.
These event messages are usually "Stop means Stop", "Share the Road" or "Respect the Zebra (crossing)" in nature. The "Stop means Stop" events are held on sites with an SCP in operation.
We also offer Junior road watch sessions to schools who may have identified speeding as an issue. Full versions of these where the children can actually engage with those stopped by the police obviously rely on the availability of officers.
We are currently looking into the logistics and legalities of SCP officers using body worn cameras.

Hi Keith
We also have difficulty in recruiting SCP's, do many of your current SCP's come from the school community ie Teaching Assistants or grandparents etc?
We use banners and advertise the post with the help of schools and on our website. Here is a link to our short recruitment video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9CSXehFYL8 it is fairly positive in tone, highlighting the benefits of the job. A lot of our older Patrols struggle with technology so I'm not sure if the body cams would suit them aside from the legal side of things.

Thanks to all for replies -we do push banners/flyers and articles in school community and have got a couple of TA's/school staff on board. School travel also use the signs - with most primary schools requesting and using them, as well as banners for various aspects of parking etc.
Will post when WSCC have done their review of their SCP body camera trial - or encourage them to do so.
