Mobility Scooter users - training

Our Fire & Rescue Service are preparing to offer practical training for mobility scooter riders. Have any of you done similar? If so, we'd be grateful for details, particularly what you learned - what worked and maybe what didn't?

Mobility Scooter users - training

Hi Julie,

A number of years ago I worked with a mobility centre and developed a package to raise awareness on mobility use and skills.

We used the package at public events, driver workshops and shopping centres.

We had a mobility guide which explained various safety aspects and advice.

If you drop me an email I'll forward you some photo's, details and a project overview.

Dave.

Mobility Scooter users - training

Hi Julie,

We're just about to launch a new campaign on Mobility Scooter Use in mid-November. We started off by trying to say we would offer training (through retailers and shopmobility) but we came up against the issue of who train's the trainer? We didn't find anyone who we could say was approved to provide training, other than manufacturers on their specific products. We're therefor going to offer advice and guidance through retailers and shopmobility.

Happy to share the resources with anyone, check out http://jerseysaferoads.com/ from mid Nov.

Hi Julie

We used to run mobility scooter courses with Norfolk police, unfortunately we no longer run them, but if you contact me I have some information that may help.

Mobility Scooter users - training

Hi, I am involved in a multiagency group that has produced a training DVD and leaflet for training mobility scooter users. We have also contacted our local retailers and got them to sign up to a code of conduct regarding the sale of scooters and ensuring they use a generic assessment we have produced to ensure the person should be using a scooter. The videos will be available to view online within the next few days if you want to view them. Let me know if you would like the link. Regards Philip
